Cynicism and Skepticism
Novelty is a challenge.
Face the inexplicable,
the inconceivable.
In an uninformed moment
one might respond
with fear, or anger, or curiosity.
Those who are habitually contemptuous
will respond to the new
in their customary way.
Contempt is a variation of anger,
used to protect self-esteem.
Skepticism is contempt
impersonating intellect.
Both are protections against unfamiliarity,
Both are unattractive and unhealthy.
Gently perceiving the new is stressless.
Tolerate not knowing.
Confront the unfamiliar with innocence.
